Other Power

In addition to IAIS’s normal fleet and their longer term lease units covered in the roster, the road has also hosted a number of interesting units. Some are just passing through, some are showing off a vendor’s latest product, and some are short term lease units. This is a look at all the units that don’t deserve an entry of its own in the roster, but were notable.

We need your help! Many of the IAIS short leases and demonstration runs escaped our notice. Thus, if you saw any, and especially if you photographed them, we could use your contributions. Just email us at iais@iaisrailfans.org.

GE sent IAIS some of the Super 7-23B demonstrator units during late 1990. These are ex-WP U23B units that have been completely rebuilt and upgraded. Here are 2000 and 2002 at Joliet, IL, during October 1990.

During April of 1999, IAIS tested out MotivePower’s new MP2000C. Only this one unit was ever built (out of an old SD35).
